The Centre for Youth & Community Development known just as CYCD has just received a wonderful New Year gift: Vauxhall is presenting the centre with a 17- seater Vauxhall Movano minibus for the year which can also be booked out by other local charities and organisations.  Vauxhall’s purpose-built Movano minibus provides comfortable, safe accommodation for 17 people, including the driver.  It is fitted with inertia-reel safety belts tested to passenger car standards on all of the seats making it a safe option when moving people around in the community.

Donating the vehicle is part of Vauxhall’s regular community support work and Cherie Denton, Vauxhall’s community relations officer, explains: “Transport is expensive for everyone and this donation will make it affordable for more people. CYCD has carried out exceptional work in the community.  The minibus will be placed with them and they will have a booking system so that other charities in the county can benefit from this resource when it is not being used by CYCD.”

Delighted CYCD director Mir Juma says: “Vauxhall’s incredibly generous gift will make an enormous difference to us, transporting the very young, to the very elderly people, taking summer school and youth club youngsters on regular trips and generally providing a much-needed community resource.  We can’t thank them enough.”

If you are a charitable organisation and would like to hire the minibus please call CYCD on Tel:   01582 519500

CYCD, now in its 33rd successful year, delivers services to people who would otherwise be at risk of social exclusion.  They run a pre-school, elderly people’s lunch club, provide drugs and alcohol outreach work which advises 7,000 youngsters a year, they run an advice centre, help Muslim young women to reach their full potential; offer consular services; provide help for young people with a disability; hold a Bangla Saturday school and provide after school homework help.

Little Stars, the pre-school playgroup at CYCD has recently received the highest possible commendation from Ofsted.

And for 21 years CYCD has run the Crescent Summer School.  Recently voted the ‘Winner Of Winners’ at the prestigious Luton Community Awards, the summer school offers a four week scheme each year where young people can participate in educational and recreational activities in a safe and friendly environment.
